Awards

Each year, HAAEYC honors individuals who have made contributions to the field of early care and education through our Awards program. Nominations for the following awards must be received by January 30th of each year. Honorees are recognized at the Annual Awards Event in May of each year.

The categories for awards are as follows :

Classroom Teacher of the Year

This individual is acknowledged for his/her outstanding teaching practices and for the ways in which parents and community are involved in the classroom. Criteria for selecting the award recipient will include :

  • Direct teaching experience with children
  • Involvement in HAAEYC
  • Other professional community activities

The recipient of this honor is also awarded the $1,000.00 Elsie Samuels Scholarship Award. This scholarship is to be used to attend the NAEYC Conference and to purchase classroom materials.



Teacher Educator of the Year

This individual is acknowledged for his/her contribution to the education of teachers. Criteria for selecting the award recipient will include :

  • Teaching experience
  • AEYC involvement
  • Other professional community activities


Administrator of the Year

This individual is acknowledged for his/her ability to be an effective administrator of programs for children. Criteria for selecting the award recipient will include :

  • Administrative experience
  • AEYC involvement
  • Other professional community activities


Advocate of the Year

This individual is acknowledged for his/her ability to speak out in an effort to raise public awareness and effect public policy for children. Criteria for selecting this award recipient will include :
  1. Having membership in groups concerned with children's issues
  2. Attending meetings where issues involving young children are discussed and speaking for children.
  3. Writing on behalf of children
  4. Telephoning or personally contacting persons who are in positions to improve the quality of life for young children


Elected Official of the Year

This elected official is acknowledged for positively affecting public policy for children. Criteria for selecting the award recipient will include :

  • Elected to a local, state, or national level of government
  • Representation of himself/herself as a leader in the development of significant and recent legislation which benefits young children or their families


Susan Hargrave Trainer of the Year Award

This individual is recognized for his/her contribution to the early childhood field as an outstanding trainer. Criteria for selecting the award recipient will include :

  • Training Experience
  • AEYC involvement
  • Other community activities

All honorees for the above awards will be submitted by HAAEYC to the TAEYC Awards Committee to be considered for state level awards.
